Gearbox drain plug

Postby router » Thu 12.06.2008, 11:20

Is the gearbox and engine oil drain plug the same type bolt?

Both are 23mm head
m20 bolt 1.5 thread

Can they be put in either or?

The gearbox has an O ring and the engine oil drain has a copper washer is that the only difference?

I'm not certain they're the same actually...

Hah, John beat me to it.

I don't think either of them have 23mm heads.
The gearbox one is 25mm. Try finding a 25mm socket though
I think the sump is a lot smaller, but I can't remember what size.

OK I have a new magnetic sump plug and a spare gearbox in my garage. Give me half an hour and I'll have a definitive answer for you...

Engine Sump Plug is:

M14x1.50 with a 14mm head (but as this is an aftermarket spare the head size could vary).

Gearbox Plug is:

with a 24mm head.
