You should get a list of which program gives what boost setting. Then:
If you are leaving your car with a garage and you suspect that they may take it out for a spin, turn it down to minimum.
Going for a spirited blast or on a trackday? Turn it up to the max.
It's up to you.
Yeah I see ... I didn't mention there was a display onto the switcherboard. ;-)

I have another question ...

After decoding my VIN to see what PROM I have; I've found that my car has the 1944 PROM... and that's weird?

I've imported the car from Germany...

My car has LHD and don't has the big bumpers like they delivered in the US...

I think that the 9929 and 9930 have completely different CO potentiometer calibration, so in theory, yes you can swap from one to the other by just changing the boxes over.
In practice, you'll probably need a gas analyser to measure the CO output before you do, and then to adjust the CO pot to bring it back to the original reading afterwards.

I've moved the question to here because Alan is more likely to see it and confirm the above answer.

It never rains....

Judging by a couple of recent ECU failures that happened soon after switcher installations I have a bad feeling and so I am recalling all switcher kits that have the new version of the EX remote (pictured). I'll refund in full if the kit is undamaged. It might be a coincidence but I don't want to take any chances. I have e.mailed everyone who I believe might be affected but please get in touch if you have slipped through the net.

Any idea what I do now?

Use Elanscan to take a PROM dump & send this to ESM.

As Chris had to get the garage to use their diagnostics, maybe he hasn't got Elanscan.
But quoting the above code to ESM may well be enough for him to be able to provide the appropriate upgrade chip.

Chris,
ESM is in Glasgow at the moment up to his elbows in alternators, and away from home.

However, our new search facility reveals this thread, in which Geoff identifies the anxz9099 as an early 9239 (see here for definition)..

See also this thread, and pjohn151 talking to himself here.

If you have problems meeting MoT emission levels then you need the 9930 SE chip mentioned here. In fact, my personal opinion is that you should always fit a 9930-based Mountain chip to an SE, and take the opportunity to upgrade from your old 9929-spec chip. This will give you a chip based on the latest Lotus specs which were brought out to ensure compliance with later emissions regulations, and so gives you a useful bit of leeway at MOT time. You will have to adjust the CO pot if you replace a 9929-spec chip with a 9930-based upgrade, but that's a doddle.

If you want to fiddle & are really concerned about emission tests, then upgrade to a 1499 & fit an O2 sensor. The wiring is already in place too.

As my car is an SE (91) and in the garage and I have no idea which chip is fitted, from what I understand John, is that pretty much forget seeing if the chip is a 9929 or 9930 and just order a mountain chip based on 9930. Then take CO readings before, fit the new chip and tune in the CO pot (I know it failed its last emissions on CO (they were quite high to say the least). Then 'store' the old chip......just in case! As the car is goign for MOT after all this work, I have a feeling that even after tuning its going to have problems and I have always wanted an upgrade chip anyway!!

Exbury,
My car is an SE which had the old 9929 chip in it. When I put in a mountain chip a few years ago, they were all I think based on the 9930, as that was the chip supplied by Lotus according to the latest Service Bulletin. It ran fine straight away, but idling was a bit lumpy. After a quick confab with ESM, I adjusted the CO pot and all was perfect. I adjusted it by ear rather than with a CO probe in the exhaust, although the latter is probably preferable. Note that previously the CO pot was turned to its minimum to allow the 9929 to pass the MOT. When I fitted the 9930-based Mountain chip I had to move the pot away from its minimum setting to give a bit more fuel at idle.

As far as storing the old chip is concerned, you don't have to worry about that. As I mentioned in Paul Watkins S2 chip thread:
John_W wrote:Paul,
I'm afraid it doesn't work like that. You don't end up with a spare old chip when you fit a Mountain chip.

The old chip is not independently removable but is contained in a housing which also contains the "limp home" circuitry. As such the old assembly is retained, and both it and the new Mountain chip are plugged into the adapter board such that the old chip (although present) is not electrically connected.

For a more lucid explanation see here.

John

The bottom line is that I'd go for the 9930-based Everest and adjust the CO pot.
