Torx t numbers vs Torx e numbers

OK,

This is probably a stupid question but I ask it anyway;

the exhaust manifold studs are torx ended - accordin to Dave's Myers write up they are T-40. So I need a FEMALE torx socket to get them out...

.. but the female torx sockets are referenced E6,8. 10 and so on.

So - which E number matches the T40?

Info needed so I can order a set to attack the turbo etc ..

I don`t know the answer to your question but IIRC i used a 5.5mm (or maybe 6.5mm ) socket to remove mine and for the tight space ones i used the spanner for bleeding my wilwood calipers which i think was 1/4"

Saab's use Torx screws, so needless to say I have a few sets of them now

I've only heard of the T- numbers though

I quickly eyeballed a T40 and it seems close to a 5mm hex; try some hex heads and see.

You're saying you can't buy a T40 in a set of tips?

E numbers are for external Torx such as you've got on the manifold studs and the numbers are somehow related to the distance between the crowns. Sorry Jim, but I don't know what number they are.

e8 is the size you need for the exhaust manifold studs.

Don't ask me why it is similar in dimensions to the T40 - i don't know if there is any correlation between the two systems

(by the way - i'm not just going on memory - i've just been and tried a socket on a stud!)
