Form that can a assume that this configuration should be fine as long as it is more than 250mm above the ground.

Not quite.....

The picture of Ratman's car shows the foglight on the left hand side of the car - ('cos it's in Italy!), but in the UK it needs to be on the right.

(also, all the other dimensions need to be complied with  )

OK, I'd better try and find that plinth that I think I have...

RIGHT

I think I have sourced some little lights to fit behind the grill in the rear bumper.

I was toying with just a 4 inch strip of LED like this; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=017

I have gone for these,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=019
I think these will look good fixed to a small sheet of plastic or SS behind the grill.

I have just looked at the wiring and OMG makes no sense to me at all.

I thought it was a case of unpluging the old main lights and pluging in the new ones

NOOO can't be that easy

Gerry

What I have is a perspex cover and the black plastic surround - no plinth as such.
This would be a lot easier to explain if page 12.08 hadn't gone AWOL from the parts manual.

Re: Kia Rear Light conversion

Postby Gee0 » Mon 01.09.2008, 17:29

OK

I have an Auto-electrician sorted to fit the lights.

Question is can he fit the fog light and reversing light without removing the bumper?

If he removes the 4 hex bolts/scews from the underneath, is there enough give in the bumper for him to install and fix the new lights in place.(behind the gril at the bottom of the bumper)

If not can anyone give me a step by step account for removing and refitting the bumper so that I can give him a copy.

Can anyone that has fitted these Kia rear lights before give me/him any advice, snags that may occur?

Thanks in advance

The only two that I can remember Gerry, are the need to fettle the holes in the back panel to accommodate the larger rear gubbins on the Kia units.
Your electrician will need to do some re-wiring as well because they're wired differently and have different connectors IIRC.

Hi

I have just had a look at removing the rear bumper

4 hex underneath
4 Bolts in the boot
4 selftappers 2 each side on the edge of the bumper to hold the wheel arch liner in place

This bumper must have been off before ( maybe when the Pleco was fitted) Very Very easy little pressure and all came loose.(10 min Job)

It looks like the bumper will have to come off to fit the lights. I have hand tightened all the fixing in place so that the guy doing the work can see how it comes off.

BIG QUESTION
Is there anything he should know about to make refitting the bumper easier?

thanks

Hi

Looks like I have sourced a rear numberplate plinth although cracked on one side, I only need the middle.

Am I right in thinking that the eyebrows over the lights are not refitted after the Kia lights are inplace?

YIPPEE

Got my KIA lights fitted today, I think there the nuts, look great with the Slik Red.

Some pics

Now I just need to get on and extend the Numberplate Plinth. (It will stay the standard colour for now and maybe spray it Silk Red later)
