remote boot release

I`ve managed to complete the instalation today since i had a bit off free time, used the same Saab switch as Da-pinky but it`s hidden The only thing is that with the weight of the solenoid the boot only just stays in the up position maybe the extra weight will get the back end out a bit more when i`m on track

That's the one I used to feed the wires out of.

I'd recommend you used a smaller, lighter solenoid, but I see you are a subscriber to the 'there's only on f in Geof Smith' school of physics: more weight better traction when braking! I finally have some carbon fibre off cuts if you still want some I'll soak them in resin.

Jay, if you are hampered by the boot not staying open it looks as though you can increase the pressure on the two torsion bars by packing them away from the bulkhead...If I’m wrong its due to only having a quick glance - in the dark.

I've managed to fit a boot release and fuel flap release without cutting any of the fiberglass on the boot using bike brake cables can post pictures if anyone is interested.

I haven't been following this thread, but here's my 2 Cents worth (actually worth nothing in today's economy).

The car doesn't have a remote boot release, so you can leave valuables in the boot when the hood is down. If there's a remote release, a thief could just reach in, open the boot, and take your stuff. Personally, I rely on this security feature quite often, and I'm glad there's no remote release. I would be sure the release is located in a hidden spot, or has a locking mechanism of some sort.

That's easy enough to remedy. Wire the release button to ignition. That way the release only works when the key is in the on position. I rather like that as I hate having to turn off the car to get somethin from the boot just to get back in and start it again.

Or wire it in to the boot release on the alarm fob!

All good as long as it isn't just a cable like the hood stowage or fuel filler releases.

Ok I'll post some pics tomorrow. As a note I've used the ignition feed from the air-con switch (don't have air-con so its behind a blank in the centre consul) to power a volvo boot and fuel switch that I got from ebay. So when the car is parked up with the ignition off they won't work so the boot is secure.

The hardest part of this was adjusting the connection between solenoid and brake cable so the pull releases the lock and returns enough for the boot to lock again. I think this is because quite a strong pull is required through the cable and the solenoid is only just up to it.

How did you fit the brake cable to the boot latch Alex...useful for anyone wanting to fit a purely mechanical one?
