Ooooh!

All these underneath tweaks may necessitate a larger spoiler (ironing board boy!) :wink:
seriously Phil, it's great to see this project getting the attention it deserves.

Are you still using the stock front bumper? Just wonder are you going to make a front splitter?

What about fitting undertrays for smoother air flow underneath like the Elise has :?

Yes, front splitter, full under tray, rear diffuser and the exhaust moved into the boot, out of the way as; not to spoil the airflow. :D
Original front bumper, slightly modified.

Nice :smt023
Any date set for it`s 1st outing?

Any chance off reproducing the front splitter :wink:

I think the front splitter would be the only part I am making which would fit a standard car, without cutting bits off. :D

I stripped the dash last year and have lost the horn, lights switch and ignition switch wiring. :oops: It's a Rats nest (not literally) so I am a little bemused. Of course wiring is not my thing so It's difficlt even when I know what I should be doing.
However I have a suspect; 3 wires in a sleve going from the ECU area. It's long enough to reach the speed o. Do you think it might be the ignition. The wires are purple black and purple with white stripe?

Cheers,

Phil

What sort of connector(s) have they got on the end Phil?

Purple and white is used in the interior lights.

That's what it is then; Rear view mirror wiring.

It's a shame I still have to find the ignition, horn and light switch.... :roll:

Thanks,

Phil

I found the ignition Switch!
Do you know for sure what these terminals are for, so I can wire up my new race switches. :-D

Heres the ignition switch from the electrical manual.

B=Black
R=Red
BR=Black with red stripe

That takes care of the three larger wires....not sure about the smaller one though. Cant find mention of that, and I cant think what it could be for at the moment.

DIN 72552 15= ignition supply, 50=starter so presumably the number under the red lead is 30. Doesn't say what WP is though - Is it a three position (plus off) switch? Is it the radio supply? Did the radio work without the ignition on?

I assume then that it was before your time or too long ago to remember the details. The only other check is to try the switch itself to see how many positions it has - hopefully Phil hasn't wrecked it.

I've missed something here... why would it [the ignition switch] be any different to any other Elan?

'Cause it appears to have an extra terminal (WP).

It is indeed number 30.

According to the handbook:
The ignition (standard GM part)
Insert Key: Position B
1st turn to release the steering lock: Positon I
2nd turn to switch on Axillary power: Position II
3rd turn to crank the motor: Position III

Federal Market Cars have radio power on position I (this could be it)
Domestic market Cars have constant radio power for factory fitted radios

The wires from the switch go to a 4 pin connector plug. I'll photograph it (with my new digital camera) but as far as my notes go:
there are 3 wires (in my note book) on the female socket of the connector:
Brown (thick wire)
White (thick wire)
White with red stripe

I'll get some sensible pics of this connector asap

Cheers,

Phil

As suspected, the thin red wire goes no where.
I should have enough info now to wire up the start switches. :-D

Thanks,

Phil

I'm making serious headway now with the bodywork. Everything is CarbonEpoxy composite with the exception of the door voids; which are Glass/Kevlar/CarbonEpoxy composite. The glass holds the shape, the (ballistic grade) Kevlar stops it shattering and the carbon outer shell for strength.

I'm re shaping the back end and may move the exhaust into the boot when vented sufficiently. The new CarbonEpoxy dash weighs 1kg

The front end is Carbon Epoxy and I'm using the original hinges, but fixing it with 6, 1/4 turn Dzus fasteners; the whole thing can me removed in about 10 seconds by 2 people. I don't know the weight but it's not finished so that can wait.

Check out those Calipers! Ohh yes!
