I'm in the U.S. So its a bit of a far run down to that particular wrecking yard lol! I have Ed Hands old car buy the way if any of you guys remember him from here.

The difference the kit makes is incredible. Coupled with Dave M's solid shifter mounts and the new gear knob (which reduces the overall height of the shifter), the whole operation is now a lot shorter, firmer and extremely precise. It gives the gear change a much sportier feel.

I would recommend this to anyone who still has the old sloppy celery stalk shift! Its a superb upgrade.

Carried out another enhancement to this set-up. I bought a new gear lever assembly from the Lotus aftersales (£20 inc VAT ) and swopped out my 100k mile unit. Only took 30mins. Comparing the two side-by-side, the new shifter is far less sloppy than the one I took out. £20 well spent me thinks

Finally fitted Dave's short shift kit today, enough said, well not quite

Took me twice as long as it should as i sat down with the selector housing on my lap for an hour to figure out how it works Two comments on the very good instructions. The first, do the two mods in reverse order to the instructions as its easier manhandling the mechanism without the heavty counterweight (I.E do the bellcrank then the cross shaft) The second is, no, Dave is not being extra nice by including 'spare' retainers and washers (well maybe the retainers) The washers are not spares, they are SS and are to replace the OEM thick washers which you can, if you are really really stubborn, or have had six beers, use and get the retainer in, only to find it binds Use the shiney new ones and WOW !. Having everything freshly lubricated and correctly adjusted no doubt helps, but this kit is a must have. Now where is the hacksaw for the gear lever

I used the shortshift for the first time at Castle Coombe and the improvement is immense just the gear lever let it down - the gearlever knob appears to be broken - I have ordered a replacement one

Has the lever assembly the actual gear stick in it? How does the end of the stick fit to the knob? Is there a thread? If you give it the chop what do you fix the new knob to? Thanks.

Yes, the lever assy on the sale list comes with a new gear stick. It is threaded M10 (x 1.25 pitch IIRC). Bit of a bargain at 20 quid ish
If you chop it you will need to re-thread it (or maybe find a new knob that clamps on?)

Sorry, all the last batch of kits are spoken for. I might do another batch if interest is high - around 25 needed to make it worthwhile

Yes, AB Motorsports one. Like DeeAitches, the modification is made at the gearbox end, which stresses the gearcables more, although S2s shouldn't cause you a problem. It is a 3-position adjustable one, requires you to remove the gear selector (easier than it sounds) & costs about twice as much as Dave's kit.

I like mine... a lot.

Exactly why I'm waiting until after my track day this month to fit the short-shift kit! I don't want to tow her home with broken shift cables...

How heavy is the gear change with the short shift fitted? We intend to fit a round gear knob which will reduce the lever about 1.5". Which we presume
will make the shift a little shorter and more precise also heavier. Max is only small very determined but still at the end of the day if the shift is to heavy
we feel this might take away from the shifts advantages. Will the short shift and lever reduction make the throw to heavy?
