Windscreen A Post Seal Carriers

Postby Gordon » Sun 19.07.2009, 09:09

Regarding the RH Drivers A-Post seal carrier -

Can anyone tell me the difference between A100U488F and B100U328F ?

The manual list the former, the windscreen people fitted the latter (it's stamped on it!) -former has been lost;

B100U328F seems to give me a terrible (impossible) fit on the A-Post seal, but I'm loathed to buy a A100U488F if it's the same part?!!

I'll have a look at the carriers which I've removed in the past and let you know the result during the day, I'll take some pics.

This is the one they've fitted - B100U0328F
Facebook album of seal carrier

If you can find part numbers, I'd be intersted in closeups of an A100U488F - looks to me like you may have one of each type there - mine has the stepped cut at the top end..

The carrier that've fitted on the LHS is an A100U487F, which is giving a perfect fit - needless to say, I'd rather not disturb it any more than to see the part number...

Both sets are identical... the other set still has sealant and bits of seal on them, this made them look like the other varient...

Here's some pics...

Note to self....feed the Puppy at twelve...or don't use her paddling pool to take photographs on..

Amend that last post, they are not identical, you were correct they are different...Good eyes...

I'm still trying to clean the other ones up, there soaking at the moment

There is three diferences that are instantly visible...

the mounting face is different...one has a channel

the channel is deeper on one side...Where the A-post seal sits

the new one is longer.... the pointy bit is the longer bit...

I'll post pics when I can clean it up a bit more...

Added a pic in the Facebook album.

Here's some comparrision shots

I can't tell if the overall profile is different because I bent the latter version getting off...

One point of note is the drill holes are different... and some have been made by who ever fitted the carriers...

One thing that does appear to be aparent is that the screw holes/slots on my new carrier don't seem to be in the same place as yours;

Can you possibly measure the distance between the holes? - starting for reference at the flat top end?

Mine are at: 10mm - 145mm - 280mm - 415mm - 550mm

Top - starting at 10mm

Down to bottom at 550mm

Which of course also brings the next question!

Where should the carrier finish/locate?

This is my passenger side (which looks OK)
It appears to finish (Green arrow) about in line with the estimated edge of the glass (yellow arrow)

Any comparisons?

When my new drivers side carrier was installed, it did appear to be sitting around 5mm lower than the passenger side one..

First answer....

The slots are the same distance, but someone has drilled their own holes... 10mm lower on the top 4 and 10mm up on the bottom...

Second answer.... stand by...It's raining cats and dogs..

In fact I've just had a brain wave, I'll dig out the windscreen pillars and see where they fitted...

Dave,

Are you saying then that this distance is 10mm?

The new varient of carrier mirrors the profile of the window pillar...that top spikey section...

But saying that...that's using the self made holes, not the slots...If I were to use the slots it would sit lower...

I guess it's one of the S2 improvements,

So your new seal carrier is sitting 10mm to low

The other car has what appears to have the old carriers, they sit 5-10mm lower than the top of the windscreen

I'm guessing the new carrier isan attempt by Lotus to stop the top of the seal getting pushed back in the top corner when driving at speed...
