seat refurb

Postby Rice crispy » Sat 17.10.2009, 15:00

After spending ages trying to find somewhere to do my seats without any success i decide to give it a go myself :-o I purchase some leather cleaner and paint from leonard brookes (easier to take the car to match the colour. the process is simple just need to take your time.

1st i used the cleaner to strip the surface back to be able to paint, make sure that you don't spill the cleaner and do it in awell ventilated area.

next you need to mask the area making sure you get right into the corners and leave no risk of overspray.

3rdly paint ! make sure you apply in light coats with 3-5 mins between them and a max of 30mins. leave to dry for an hour or so and then carefully remove the masking tape

then lastly give the seats a day or two then give them a polish and stand back and admire your handywork

Nicely done. I didn't know you could paint leather. I brought my Elan to a local guy here in NC. He pulled them, reupholstered and installed some cool piping along the edges and some colored leather. Even did some embroidery. I was pleased withthe result. See pics.

Agreed...

...both very impressive. Makes me want to work on my own seats...

Also Dave...where did those mats come from... I like the look of 'em.

Whilst the paint job looks good you can't beat the smell of new leather :!:

I think the entire seat upholtery work and side trim leather work ran $1000, With the embroidery.
The mats came with the car, I don't know where from. Sorry.
