Where can I find AB Shift Cables? They seem to be the best solution. I sent the fellow on here a message, but haven't heard anything back. Is there a source for these in the US?

I think for the US you should go direct to AB Motorsport:

And welcome! Not too many Americans on the board. Please i
ntroduce yourself and your Elan sometime soon. I'm not sure how many other Elans you'll find in and around the Midwest but you may be surprised. AB cables are definitely worth fitting. Take your time routing them to insure they don't bind. While you're in there, you'll be very happy if you fit a short-shift (either AB or Dave's). I have the AB cable/Dave's shortshift combo and it's a night-and-day difference compared to the stock setup.

Perfect, thanks guys! I'll give them a call and see what we come up with.
Any idea what the cables and AB short shift cost? I'd be interested in doing it, but I don't really want to spend more than $1,000 on it right now.
The owner of a local Kia dealer has had his beautiful red Elan in his showroom for as long as I remember, I was really surprised when I spotted it. It's the only other one I've seen in person.

I gave it about 100 shifts then removed it and filed it.
Couldn't stand it.
Steve -w- new lady
Did you cut down the gear shift?
This makes it even better.

Yeah, I've been driving it a few days now, I'll have to pull it out and do that.
You cut the lever down? I haven't seen anything about that, how much did you take off?

Replacing the rubber bushes that mount the gear lever bracket to the chassis with delrin ones make it even better.

Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...!

Good timing; my cables are due from Alan anytime soon.
Great pic's which will help a lot with the fitting.
Apologies for the slight highjack, but which bush is it that I've seen mentioned several times that needs some filing? A picture would be very useful......

See the last pic? The cable end with the black rubber bushing goes on just fine, the one not quite in the pic is the one that needs a little filing.

You can cut a good 1/2 to 3/4".
Much easier with unit out of car.
Shift knob can still be original or aftermarket design.
Yes forgot the rubber bushings can be replaced making the unit one solid.
I believe Alan at AB also has these.

The one which is difficult to fit in the first place.
Don't file it too aggressively or you'll introduce slop, or make it abrasive so it wears the pin.
File it gently, tidy up with some fine wet & dry paper, then apply some grease.

Hi all,
On the Belgian Lotus Forum, I posted the question if there is interest in organizing a group buy of the AB Cables.
H2J came with the hint to post the question here as well.
So should we get some interest, I could bargain for a good price.
I can have all cablesets shipped to me, and sent those for UK to one address ?
Let me know if you're interested.
I'll keep the poll running untill december 14th. and then ask for a price quote.
Regards,
Peter.
