I wish to check the power steering pump on my elan .The "book" advises that the front clam has to be removed first ,My question is does the clam have to come off before you can remove the pump?
Thanks et
The Honda was SO MUCH EASIER

It is a pain to remove the PS pump. On cars without a turbo upgrade you do have to remove the clam. On cars with the Garrett upgrade just remove the downpipe.
Must....................Go...............Faster

I've done it without moving the clam - it's a while ago, and it came out of the bottom - can't remember anything else, so it may have been whilst the turbo was out!
Sorry to be so vague, but it's stupid o'clock in the morning and i've got a lot on my plate at the moment.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

When I ported my wastegate I had to get the PAS pump out of the way to gain access to manifold bolts.
I didn't actually remove it, but I'm sure that it could have come out if I'd just undone the hoses.
Complete clamshell removal sounds excessive.
