the 2nd pic, is it a spacer for packing out one of thr hood seal :?

As for the second one: you're right in thinking it's a shim, but for where?

The second one's made of plastic. And it's 1.6mm thick, apparently.
If you can guess one of them I'm happy to tell you what the other one is - feels like I underestimated the difficulty somewhat!

Ok, I appear to have killed the thread! :(
So to give it a nudge, #2 is an A-panel mounting shim (A100B2509K)

and if you raise the bonnet and stand in front of the car you should (probably) be able to see part of #1.

Close, but not quite!
Apparently the steel plate at the bottom is B100B1262F.
The part in the photo is a plastic shim and goes at the top of the A-panel, as below:

However, the parts guide and the service manual seem to show different things, and neither quite matches up with my car... Anyway, you were closer than anybody else!
