I backed this project financially and the end result has far exceeded my expectations.
When I talk with the Knox boys I will request they make another prototype.
If Knox agrees I can ship the original from my car to you or someone of your choosing
who is willing to put it through its paces. This would be in the best interest of the
Elan community.
I believe in this upgrade,it has changed the performance of my Elan better than the
larger exhaust or Everest chip.
My next track day is 3-27-11. So you can't have it yet.![]()

Nobody knows how it really works. That is all part off the con.

Of course the pipes expand/contract at different rates...that is why we included the flex bellows, which is how nearly all F1 motors (when turbocharged) controlled pipe expansion and prevented cracking. "Unevenly heated" i am not sure where you are going with that. Wastegate gases are considerably hotter than discharge gases (whose heat has gone a bit to spin the turbine) but again, that's why we have the bellows in there.
I think they banned Turbo chargers in F1 in the 80's.
superbad wrote:In all the racing applications I have ever seen (Champcar / old F1), the wastegate exit is completely separate from the turbine exit, as in separate pipes that never come back together at all. They don't need to worry about exhaust noise or emissions, so there is no need to bring them back together before a cat or muffler. The McLaren you posted is operating to a completely different set of constraints than either a racecar our our cars, and it undoubtedly has a carefully and well designed turbine and wastegate housing, unlike the Elan (I doubt McLaren owners will ever have to take a Dremel to theirs). To me the Knox solution- getting those interacting flows as far away from the turbine as practical- looks right. Although exhausts (indeed engines) were never my specialty.
Some good turbo racing exhaust pics here if you're curious:

There's a big difference between "not my specialty" and "I know nothing". I've sat through probably a couple hundred of hours of Powertrains lectures. Honestly, I couldn't care less what choice you make on your car. It's a warm sunny day here, I'm 20 minutes away from lightly policed mountain roads, I'm sure I can find something better to do than argue on the internet.
