Postby abmunro » Tue 15.09.2009, 13:32

Took Elan for MOT today after spending 2 hours yesterday sorting handbrake.

Sailed through no problem

Mileage now 24013

Very happy

Mine too but advisary that calipers are close to wheels.... bl**dy iron wheel weights have shifted and scored the caliper - bring back lead ones I say.
The emissions were strange as I had just fitted brand new plugs, O2 sensor and air filter but CO & HC levels went up! :smt017

Did you take it to the same place. I got a fail on mine some years ago and left the car in to be 'fixed' and there was nothing wrong, they tested again and it passed. Didn't do it right the first time!

ABM, your car should be in top condition now, especially after the money you have spent on it. :-D

A couple of 1.6mm fibreglass wheel spacers were added to get around caliper proximity problem. Minor problem as n/s Wilwood caliper was weeping - bloody NPT taper connections and non-handed calipers means the o/s caliper exit angle of the 90° connector is spot on but the n/s is 180° out so I've re-cut the connector thread by an extra half turn and everything is now spot on. CO levels slightly down but HC levels still increasing. :(

Geoff,

At this rate, by my reckoning you'll have to consider a HG change before the MOT test in 6 years time :(

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

There's emissions testing where I live - for the Elan it would need to be less than 1.000% CO and 220ppm HC...but I could have a missing handbrake and non-functional calipers and they wouldn't notice or care.

Just had mine MoT'd. Last year emissions were CO 1.537%, HC 112ppm.
This year with an O2 sensor fitted and the Everest swapped to a 1499 map:
CO 0.58%, HC 42 ppm 8)

At 526 miles in a year I'm not surprised  (especially since nearly 200 of them was going to our 'local' meet)

In the Netherlands CO threshold is 0.5% so you can see why this is an exiting day every year without kat's!
