Yup!
I had a reconditioned one, must have been from the impulse. The housing was 6 mm lager in diameter so didn't fit. Took me all weekend and my knuckes before i decided to measure the thing.
Why not get your current one out of the car, have it reconditioned at a local shop (there are many, many shops that will do just that) and build it in again?

You might take the opportunity to look for an upgraded alternator that puts out more juice. I replaced mine a few years back and found one that was rated at 75amps (pretty sure that was it but its been a while) which is slightly better than the stock 65 amps.

my local mechanic got one from local motor factors through trial and error, tried a few, got one to fit, cost £100. That was last month. The one I bought 5 yrs ago cost me alot more!

That's interesting and a really good price, well done to your mechanic.
Is there any chance of a make and model number? This would be really helpful for others and for the Wiki.

Scott,
Do you have information on the alternator numbers?
I may be in need of one, and any options would be helpful.
Cheers, Steve

Why not just get yours repaired there has been problems with the charge light not going out when buying one that fits but is not the right one which has been posted on here in the past, i got mine repaired by unit exchange on 08000528312 they will get it picked up and returned to you and you will know it will re-fit with no problem

I had a
http://www.woodauto.com/zoomImg.aspx?Ref=ALT30391 fitted today.
The ignition light does extinguish, everything lines up & connects, and it's slightly uprated.
The only minor problems are
1, It's a little big bigger than the original Lotus one, but a bit of leverage sorted that, apparantly!
2, I appear to have bought their last one (although that doesn't mean they won't be getting re-stocked)
I posted this in the cross referance section.
Thanks once again for all your help & advice fellas, Steve
