Changing the front clam

Postby nyssa7 » Fri 04.05.2012, 16:21

Been shopping and picked up a front clam, bonnet and front bumper, all conveniently in yellow just like my car

Is it an engine out job to change the clam, anyone done one before?

Thanks

If I remember correctly there are eleven bolts to undo

I needed a new one of these, but they have to be re-manufactured by SJSportscars

Un-bolting took about 2 hrs. 1 man.
Sorting wires and misc. 2 hrs. 1 man.
Lifting off 10 min. 2 men, third man use as a guide.

Make a diagram for shim placement and bolt size.

Thanks guys, looks like I am going to need to plan for this, and hope that removing the front doesn't uncover any nasties

:agree: I like the idea of a mesh to prevent Chicken to enter the injectors :bananasex:

given the cars age you will be best to have a good talk to yourself
given the practical benefit of access to things - you will want to plan to do a bit of corrosion preventative maintenance whilst your in there - but you will be at risk of serious project creep - - -- -- or you plan to the the clam

if you have to get your original off first - be prepared to replace a few of the body work fittings

+1 on the corrosion protection. Cleaning all the radiator type bits would be of great benefit. I'm sure that the job will grow as you see lots of opportunities for improvement. Good luck. Keep us informed and post lots of pictures.
