air rage lands my holiday fiight in malta

Postby clemo » Wed 04.07.2012, 21:20

so off on our jolly "proper"package holiday.
sitting down in our 2nd class seating department.
clunk up ready to go and the usual announcement comes over the tannoy plus .
"any abuse towards our staff or other passengers will result in those being offloaded "

i mention to the missus thats a bit strange , i have never heard that before.

meanwhile up in 1st class mr and miss scrote are playing up.

upon take off he decides to punch her in the head as she's not looking out the window so he should have sat by it instead.

she then bites him.

he then gets up (whilst the plane is still heading for the clouds) and kicks the hell out of the toilet.

AT THIS POINT WE SHOULD HAVE TURNED ROUND AND HEADED BACK TO GATWICK.

This guy has intimidated the male staff saying he is going to punch the G"Fs (men who love men) so they back off.

the air hostess's try and split the toxic couple up and make him stand by the emergency exit !!!!

a policewoman who was previously an air steward ( tries) to take control of the situation. She is worried that he could (and it is possible) to open the door.

she sit next to him and get's toxic girl to sit next to her husband ..

it turns out toxic couple are of to kenya to get married . police woman and husband are going on their honeymoon ( what a lovely start)

so with the couple split up all is well .. for 5 minutes. This blokes anger levels don't drop . no adrenaline dump , he just stays at a high level of anger

this continues another 5 hours with the aggro still going on until we reach Libya and he tries to get into the cockpit.

The Captain announces on tannoy we are diverting back to Malta (over 1 hour away) ... at this point scrote boy start crying.

we land at 2am , whole plane gives a loud clap. ( however i mention to my missus that eurozone has a no night flight zone) and with that we all get offloaded.

Scrote boy and girl get found with pot on them but as it is their 1st offence in Malta get a smacked wrist.
At this point you would hope they would get deported back to the uk for what is seen as a serious crime of air rage and trying to enter the cockpit. but no ...

as for us we all get ferried out to various hotel and cannot fly until the pilot's remaining hours have been served and then rested .

So when the pilots flying hours "window" come round we return 19.5 hours later to the airport. Who happens to be lurking around ? the toxic couple .. When many say "thanks you for messing up our holiday" he replies "its only a day"

ok this is a rant but i have issues with:-

why did they let him/them on the plane in the 1st place, they knew he "might be trouble" hence the announcement
why we didn't land within the early minutes of trouble.
Why were the flight staff so slow to act and so intimidated by him.
why didn't they cable tie him to a seat
why didn't the ultra security at gatwick pick up on his cannabis.
And if the colour of his skin had have been any other that white whether the would have charged him for terrorism or acted much quicker?

myself and 100's of others on the flight lose a day and a half in real terms of holiday ,
the people who the plane was mean't to pick up also have to stay another day
connecting flights get missed.

its almost unbelievable how much inconvenience 1 toxic couple have caused and will not be brought to book for their actions.

btw i had a lovley safari !

rant over

You got an extra take-off & landing out of it for free. Surely the best bit of a flight by far?

Sorry...not much of a plus point. :?

You mention that Toxic couple are off to get married. Hmmm, don't think that will last very long. :poke:

What a nightmare scenario, must have been very frustrating for everyone onboard, I can't believe the couple got away with it scot free :?

It is routine for the flight crew to announce a zero tolerance policy against violence, but it would seem your couple were accommodated in every way  .

A friend of mine had a very similar scenario on his flight, being a "large chap" he decided to step in and had a word, although the other passengers were grateful
for his intervention the crew were not and he was given a very stern warning when the plane landed.
"If everything is under control, you are going too slow."

It can be extremely frustrating, and we are told at work that we shouldn't intervene in anything that ocurrs 'airside' at an airport (ie, anything between passport control areas) as there is confusion over legality and power/authority in International space....

Bollox, I say, I don't think I'd want to spoil my holiday because some tw@t needs words of advice that the 'authorised' crew cant or wont give.

Should have reduced height, given them parachutes and booted them out over syria. Surely, you're not telling me they got away with it scot free. How about sueing them?

yep they got away with it .
they were both wandering aroung the airport (together)the next day trying to get a flight home . the carriers wouldn't take . But its only malta . a few train rides and you can be back home . So with that i guess they won't be picked up as they come through a ferry port and i doubt at waterloo either.

my insurance is sending me a whopping £68 for the inconvinence.

question..
if another driver hits me i claim on their insurance
if a builder messes up i claim on their public liability

if an airline cocks up i claim on my insurance ..

carrot and no stick.

Dapinky , Jane the very nice police woman was previously an air hostess and couldnt belive that the air staff backed him into the corner by the emergency door .. at this point she realised the immediate danger as he was holding and tapping it the handle. There was also another policeman who offered help , but the thought as she was (err obviously) female that it may help calm the situation.

i guess if many had have known that the plane was to be emergency landed the bigger blokes at the front would have sat on him.
very akward situation that put him totally in control ..

gaffer tape his hands together and drop him of to the kenyan police they would have not slapped him on the wrist for having marijana on him..

wouldn't know how to go about sueing them and who would i sue?

The crew was taking the "benefit of the doubt" stance. Many air crews are told this is proper etiquette. However, attempted breach of the flight deck is not tolerated under FAA regs especially after 9/11. Result is immediate diversion to the neatest "friendly" airport.

You are right though. The gate agents should have denied them boarding. The lot of agents now don't want to deal with disgruntled passengers so they pawn them off on the crews in the hopes that they won't have to deal with them. I've had that happen on multiple occasions. As an airline it is illegal for us to transport intoxicated passengers yet we still do for some reason.

Personal thoughts, the couple is a prime candidate for retroactive abortion. Done and dealt with

Train ride and a swim/boat trip to Southern Italy i guess . Whilst their behaviour is inexcusable, you have every right to be aggrieved for the inconvenience caused to you surely its some consolation that the couple have not had their holiday and presumably had a long overland passage back to the UK. That said I would also be interested to know if they had turned up at the British Embassy in Malta saying they had no money to get home whether assistance would be of been given. Finally are there any procedures for airlines to ban them from travelling in the future.

No NFL in the UK as far as know. My understanding or should I say misunderstanding as a Brit not working in the industry that NFL was just for suspected terrorists. Is that not the case.

Nope. Any person deemed a 5150 is on the NFL. 5150 is threat of harm to self or harm to others. Mentally unstable and the like. Once you are on that list you will not be allowed to fly on a commercial airliner. I know that any airline that flows through the US has access to that list and by extension must not allow persons on the list to fly, regardless of destination. The US government is pretty strict on this.

The Canadian government is worse. Anyone convicted of a felony in any country will not be admitted through customs. Less there are extenuating circumstances. Those events are to be determined by their federal and territorial governments. Ie political assylum.

Can't speak for the UK on their policy.

France is very strict as well. Though their ports of entry are pretty lax their laws are not. Kind of ironic actually.

So why do they serve alcahol on flights?
I know most people drink responsibly but there is always a minority who don't and there doesn't seem to be very much control on the amount you can drink on a flight or if there is a limit, you could easily find a way around it. Ban the alcahol and therefore reduce the risk.

That's a right Ball-ache Clemo, and it's a shame you didn't have a sky Marshall on the jet...don't let the buggers grind you down...

A policewoman who was previously an air steward (tries) to take control of the situation. She is worried that he could (and it is possible) to open the door.

What airline or charter were you flying!

If you can open a cabin door in-flight things have gone badly gone wrong...

It's the internal pressurization of the aircraft (compared with the outside pressure) which holds the cabin and cargo doors closed in-flight.... Play with switches and levers all you want, you can't beat the laws of physics... :D

The electrical systems on the doors are inhibited once the weight off wheels switch is actuated.

The emergency mechanical back up may let the door shoot up and deploy the emergency slide and life raft on landing, but I’d like to think the cabin crew would just put the lever back if it's been operated in flight.

Why do they serve alcohol in airports? Its all about money.

Agreed. Opening a door in a pressurized cabin is next to impossible. Most doors are a plug type and swing inward. The cabin pressure holds them closed. However the WOW sensor does not release any mechanism in the doors on the planes I fly. It just actuated pressure relief valves in the cabin to equalize pressure or rather ensure equalized pressure. Otherwise, if one landed in say..... Water. No gear. One would not be able to open the door.

Most of the passenger aircraft I've worked on are fitted with a dual control system.... electric motors to open and close the cabin doors, this has the added bonus of winding up the counter balance and also stops the door smashing into the mechanical stops. Most cargo and freight bays are outward opening doors, but they're still a plug door combined with inflatable seal. The WOW switch is irrelevant in a crash as you'll just pull the emergency mechanical handle and would never electrically try and operate a door after a forced water landing. Here's a quick video of me supervising the testing an ESRA deployment on one of our jets. Sadly we're not allowed to jump down the slides due to the high injury rate of people eggressing an aircraft.

we have numerous valves which control pressurization, inward pressurization opening valves, outward over pressurization valves, Twin regulating out flow valves, a full sensing system on the cabin condition system and then there's the mechanical pressurization doors which will pop open as you open an outward opening door....you don’t want to fire yourself across the ramp…

If we get really stuck we can manually wind the doors up or down if the need arises

Here's the video I've just uploaded.
