Cam belt replacement parts

As Brit-Car-Nut's compilation is cheapest and now seems to include all that is needed that is the lot to get! Although in the rock auto listsing I'm looking at under Timing Belt Kit, there is no listing for the Water Pump, so what section does that fall under?! (Still not easy is it??! )

The kit Intkin suggests does not mention the belts so seemed confusing to me.

Should I need to replace the water pump? (just seen aaditional posting...)

Still very easy. The timing belts are considered part of the engine "system" and the water pump is considered part of the cooling "system".

The other drive belts are considered to be part of the Belt Drive "system". You look up parts by their system.

The kit Intkin suggests does not include anything but the cam belt, idler, tensioner and water pump. The drive belts are in addition to the cam parts.

I haven't looked these up but Baldydash said they are for the non-A/C car, so not correct for a car with A/C. Stef: does your new car have Air Conditioning?

The only part that it is necessary to replace is the timing belt. I'm assuming that is your main intention.

Gaining access to replace the timing belt is time consuming (read expensive if you're paying someone to do it for you!).

The other three parts that are optional to replace at the same time are the idler wheel, tensioner wheel and the water pump. You don't have to replace these parts but if you don't and one of them gives way at a later date, it's very time consuming (read expensive again) to go back in and replace any of them.

So the general advice (i.e. most people do this) is to replace/renew the other three parts at the same time. That's why there's a Dayco kit that contains all the parts you need. Brit-car-nut is correct in that you can save a few quid by following his recommendations for buying separately. To be honest, I couldn't be bothered at the time so for ease I ordered the "all in one" kit (yes, I'm an eccentric millionaire ! ).

The other thing not to forget is that HM Government will require some money off you when the parts hit the shores of the UK. Some have got away with it, I never have.

Yes, main reason was that cambelt is due but it seems doing the lot is advisable with little additional cost.

Will be getting done at a garage so the 'expensive' part is understood!

Dayco kit and Gates water pump is what I shall be ordering. x 2. Tomorrow! Because thinks I've had enough of this for tonight!

Am also interested in changing cam belt idler and tensioner as well as water pump at same time. As Inkitin says it is easier to order Dayco WP169K1A at £64.96 which includes all 4 items. Postage for this one package to UK is £47. ie £112 total.
If you order 2, total postage goes up to £56, if you order 3 it goes up to £65, at 4 up to £78. ie now below £20 per person.

If you order the cheaper cambelt kit at £23.38 plus seperate water pump at £18.49, the combined postage is £76. ie £117 total. So it is £5 cheaper to do the above and you get a water pump for free.

If you then add the alternator belt and the PAS belt at about £5 each the postage for each of these 2 items is c£23. You are better off buying these belts from a local supplier or from SJ Sports.

Just go on website and add to basket to confirm these shipping costs!!!!

So I am happy to join in with 2/3/4 others to buy WP169K1A to minimise shipping costs.

All prices exclude any discount code and we will also be liable for UK import/VAT charges.

OK, so Rock Auto would treat the two items as separate orders but you could choose the GATES Part # 41053 water pump for 18.49 and GOODYEAR Part # GTK0169 Timing Belt Kit for 30.25 and they would ship together for 38.06. It appears that Dayco is not a direct warehouse for Rock Auto. That is why the shipping is higher too. Bad news is Rock Auto is saying they only have one belt kit available.

I used the post code for my storage in Notts.

I am really surprised that there is no warehouse access in the UK for these parts so you don't have to pay the outrageous shipping costs. How Lotus can try to sell the water pump for 120.00 is beyond my understanding.

Guess we have a couple of options here, there isso far now 3 of us looking to order. We can either wait for more Goodyear belts and then order OR go for the Dayco WP169K1A kit now.

Persoonally I'm in no mega rush, couple months will be ok, and as long as we have a valid discount code (which we don't know how much will save us yet but more the merrier!).

Presuming between all us LECers there will always be a valid code bouncing about waiting shouldn't be an issue??

As the Gates water pump comes from 2 different locations if you order more than one, it bumps up the shipping costs again. So also as Goodyear compilation currently not available it would seem to me to make sense to order 4 off single unit Dayco part WP169K1A now which works out at £340 total (£85 each) plus UK import/VAT for 4 people.

Rockauto check out page also shows a calculation for 5% discount and VAT: total price of £391 (£98 each) which is the amount payable to them.

What of the originator of this thread (Colinr) which we seem to have hi-jacked!!! RU interested Colinr?? For 5 the price each would be £106 (vs £98 for 4!!) as the 5th one adds £53 to shipping costs. Must be weight/volume impact

As we are replacing the water pump wont we need a gasket----BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0394100 @ 68p (!) under cooling in the engine menu. It doesn't appear to be in the "kit"

Gasket would add £5 per person to overall bill (on top of £98). SJ do it for £2.79 plus vat plus postage, so just a tad cheaper from US I guess.
