Hi All,
My Elan SE has been sitting for a number of years

I've finally got round to giving it some very overdue TLC, but the release mechanism for the roof/battery compartment is not releasing

. I've WD40'd the holding pins and the pully/bolt in the door frame but no joy
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Cliff thanks very much for the help. I expected hours to be wasted, took <20 mins. Luckily, I just had to remove screws from the locking mechanism upright post covers and pull locking rods with small pliers. Your pictures were invaluable.
Now to replace the battery, check oil and petrol and see will the engine turnover.

It would be a good idea to turn the engine by hand first if its sat that long, there is a good chance the alternator may be seized with corrosion, check its free before you fire it up, if its solid, undo the belt and try turning it back and forward. Good luck BTW.
Jamie.
