Leaking water pump

Hi, I am seeking help, I own M100 Turbo 1991 and my water pump is leaking ...dripping
My question is water temperature remains normal so would it be in my best interest to change only gasket of replace pump.
I have also noticed when start engine cooling fan kicks in every time is this normal as just bought the Lotus so don't know lot about them at the moment.

Hi there and welcome to the world of elan ownership. It think I would just change the water pump as they they are really quite cheap to buy. Also while you have it all stripped down why not change the cam belt too. you could try Rockauto for the parts ,you just need to look under the Isuzu Impulse turbo section. https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carc ... g%2BSystem.

Also a good idea to change all belts in the vicinity at the same time as the cam belt and water pump ie alternator belt, PAS belt, camshaft tensioner and idler etc..

Fans will normally kick in when the needle gets to about 2/3 or 3/4 way up the temperature guage. Check that both kick in as there are 2 and sometimes one might be siezed

however depending on the thermostat the previous owner fitted they may also kick in at the 1/2 marker (mine does) if the thermostat is the lower temperature one.

There is a chance your thermostat is shorted and that would start then fans as soon as you flick the key. which by your description sounds rather likely.
I would post a pic of the thermostat so you could see what im talking about. but its dark, cold, and i dont wanna go outside, so it will have to wait for another time

Afraid i cannot give any advice referring water pump. i don't even know where its located

Also, before going into changing belts, make sure your comfortable with the task, these guys are assuming your familiar to DIY.

Thank you for information which is much appreciated.
I think best to change both water pump and cam belt at the same time as my Lotus now has 40.000 KLMs
I was advised by last owner to change cam belt around 50K also have replacement.
Having looked into my cooling fan kicking in I think the noise is actually coming from the turbo (is this normal?) when start up and running?

One more last thing is there any suppler you may know of who can supply me with exterior rubber seal for windows as mine looking little perished.
