The Lotus is having an Outing to Halifax this weekend.

Well my Elan is having a decent run out for a change, its done less than 500 miles / year for last 4-5 years.

I hope it lasts the journey, Battery was flat as a fart, jumped it and now have charger on it. Taking some jump leads but do have RAC cover ( hoping I don't need either) Fingers crossed.

Oh scary stuff Tony!. Only thing i would say is when battery's run dead they often dont recover again, take it a good run and see if it keeps its charge overnight.

Good advice Jamie. If a battery has discharged try and catch it asap as it may not recover if left discharged for days/weeks. I don't know why this happens but perhaps an electrical/electronics guru can elucidate ? Geoff ??

Yep, he's right.... if only there was a chemisty maestro taking part in this thread... :poke:

Roll hoops make replacing the battery a real pain. I think my Elan killed off 3 batteries though winter discharge.
Remote battery terminals (under the bonnet of an S2, in the boot of my SE :-D ) make plugging in a trickle charger very easy.

Rip - I can get my battery out within 30 seconds and I have the Kuching roll hoops. If a one time analytical chemist, and now a humble gardener, can do it anyone can. Unless you're Dico and he's too busy fannying about watching knitting shows on the TV

Its more to do with how it is re-charged, a battery charger is the way which will have the best chance of bringing it back to full performance.

Good luck & enjoy.

Have you thought about a battery isolator, quite easy to do and fitted behind the drivers seat, unobtrusive and easy to use.

Battery functioned fine on the trip. But this afternoon went out on the Moors for a goon and drivers rear brake locked on . Had to wait till it cooled down. :(

I have extra poles etc to fit to make it easier, just haven't had time to fit
