What are these parts??

Postby Lotussi » Mon 30.09.2019, 17:02

Hi All,

In my purchase of a Lotus Elan, with the motor out
and parts in boxes, trying to solve the puzzle, some items we can not identify...
These items are pictured below:
does anyone of you experts know
-What are they?
-Where do they go?
and can anyone send me a picture of what goes underneath the car, right in the middle here? photo 3

I believe the bottom bracket goes on the engine block, just to the left of the dip stick, turn the bracket 90 degrees anti clockwise (as in your photo) with the short leg of the "L" against the block.

The top photo is the brackets that support the seats,
The middle is an engine steady.

download/file.php?id=26615&t=1 is the engine torque damper.
It goes on the engine block on one side and on the front of the prongeron on the other.

Only one prongeron, it's the grey T shaped thing that goes from the chassis front cross member to the underneath of the radiator.

You can see a screw with two washers towards the top (=front when in the car) of it. It is the screw used to attach the damper.

edit: just found a better set of photos (I couldn't find it because it's misspelled in the ebay description)

That looks like the mounting flange on the exhaust pipe for a mass damper.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo of it, but you don’t need one as the service notes has the picture below that shows it clearly.

You just need a flat piece of metal of the correct size (approx 2cm x 1.5cm) with one or two of its corners rounded and a hole for a mounting bolt drilled in the correct place to allow it to swivel out of the way to allow the speedo drive to be removed, then to swivel back on top of the circular part of the drive and abut against the square bit of the drive to hold the speedo drive in place when the bolt is tightened. Do NOT tighten the bolt too much or you will strip the thread in the alloy.
