Aftermarket air con

Can’t see any up to date info on this - last post seems to be 2017. Is it possible to install aftermarket air con into an S2? I’m not looking at installing original Lotus/GM parts just putting in modern air con. There is a company in Surrey that install air con retrospectively and I am awaiting a response from them but wondered if members knew of a company who currently does it. I had heard that Barry Ely in Essex did it and will speak to them when possible but thought I’d ask the knowledgeable! Thanks all.

I don't know where you are based?

It wouldn't be that hard as there was space for it as an option...not much space! The wiring is in the loom, most components could be generic and flexible hose could be used to avoid some of the torturous routings of the factory set-up.

The only bit that you will see, and dead handy as it plugs straight in is the switch, which is still available - I have a new one that you can have for £10.

Thanks Simon. I’m also in Kent, just north of Sevenoaks. Even though I haven’t yet found anyone/anywhere to do the installation, it would be good to have the switch, if it is going spare, even if I don’t actually get it done in the end. If you could post it to me, i am happy to pay for the switch and postage, or if you are near, I could pop over and pick it up. Cheers, Malc

Just heard from a company that installs air con retrospectively. They haven’t done an M100 before (surprise!) but estimated £4,000 to £4,800 to fit. So naturally I’m going to do that…. . Actually I think I’ll take the roof off more often.

Therein lies the problem. I don't suppose that it would be cheap but £4k sounds a bit high.

Why bother in this country? I had air con as OEM in my 1st Collapso Red Elan. It never got used. It's much nicer gettting the top down and the wind in your hair.

I think Lotus put the wiring in the loom more for our cousins in warmer countries

As a matter of interest, got a second quote to install aftermarket air on - £4,500 plus VAT from Alpine Air. Wow.
