I'm no C programmer, so there's probably lots more elegant ways to extract and display the info, but here's one of my efforts - adapted from Matt's original - Abandoned due to lack of support for the display I was using. The data extraction and calculations work though.

'btw I may have spoken to early about it working - I have a file with the correct file extension but it won't open.
Having looked closer, when I turn off the ignition it kills power to the Uno, (actually drops it to about 6v), so I think it's not wrapping up the writing process correctly.
I may have to pull a permanent 12v supply from somewhere to test this theory out..

Unless anyone has a better idea???

There really should be permanent 12V on the ALDL port, but as long as your file has the correct .ecu-extension, it should be good. Do you have a different SD-card available that you could try? Also, be sure to use the latest sketch from my original post edited October 2021.

thanks for hanging in there with me!
seems some of the problems stem from crappy arduino jumper leads some of which had no continuity out of the packet!
I rebuilt my cable and checked it out with the meter
updated the buffer size
connect it up to the Elan and all the lights do the right things..
put the file into the PC and get an integer overflow error..

I'll try a few more times see what happens

Just to be sure: you have installed ElanLogger.ino version 1.12, 2.10.2021 on your Arduino?
Can you post one of the corrupt .ecu-files (or PM me)?

Also, and very important, make sure not to use the latest SDFat library in the Arduino IDE but use version 1.0.3:

Newer SDFat libraries seem to be buggy and can result in corrupted .ecu-Files. With SDFat 1.0.3 ElanLogger should produce rock-solid results.

Still no joy - reformatted the sd card and reseated the uno and the logger..

It works and I can open the file!

Glad that it is working for you now. I am actually not 100% sure if there is 12v on the ALDL connector with ignition off - I mostly assumed. I cannot check it myself currently as I am away from my Elan, but will do in two weeks. In any case a solid 7 volts should be okay as the Arduino has a regulator built in that will convert this down to 5 volts. So as long as the voltage does not drop below 5 volts under the small load of the Arduino board, this should not cause trouble. Still it would be good to know if the 7 volts you have are normal.

Just checked with the manual - there is battery voltage on the connector - so this is a puzzle

As a follow up, I measured the voltage at the ALDL connector between F and A. As expected, it is always at battery/alternator voltage of 12v or higher. So 7 volts with ignition off would normally indicate a defective battery.

Looks interesting, but not straight forward. You would need the Esprit-Adapter at 1320electronics.com, which is currently marked "out of stock". Also, they say that this adapter does not work with ALDLdroid and that the .adx-file for the Esprit is kept a secret. Still, with all the information available to us through ElanScan, a suitable .adx-file for the Elan could probably be created as they are plain text and available for other cars. So someone would need to get hold of an adapter and take a shot at creating an .adx-file. It does not seem impossible.

I am no electronics expert and don't understand this wizardry, but searching for an adx file on tinternet I found a post from an Isuzu Impulse owner saying he had found such a file for the Elan M100. He wondered if it would be suitable for the Impulse.

I couldn't find the actual file though.

I have just ordered an HC-05 bluetooth module and will put together a simple bluetooth interface that works wirelessly with Elanscan on Windows. Having a wireless ElanScan on a laptop might already be valuable to some of you, but could also work with ALDLdroid given the right .adx-file.

I have already started soldering. It will be a cheap and dead simple but big and ugly prototype, consisting of an Arduino Uno, an HC-05 bluetooth module, 4 resistors and a zener diode - so will be less than 20 GBP in parts (or 30 if you add an ODB1 connector). With an integrated microcontroller/bluetooth board all would fit inside an OBD1 connector housing, however the Uno with an HC-05 are the most readily available parts for prototyping.
You can expect schematics and the Arduino sketch this month, as soon as I have successfully tested it with ElanScan.
