Forum upgrade

Postby Liz » Thu 10.08.2006, 19:01

I'm sorry guys, but the forum needs and upgrade and I'm trying something I don't have to edit all the files manually because that would take several hours.

However.. it may break some of the features that are not default, such as the photo attachment one. If these break, I'll have to readd it, which may take a little time and I appologise in advance for any inconvenience this upgrade may cause.

After the upgrade is done, you may have to sign in again, so please copy your posts before sending in case they fly off (though they shouldn't).

It'll start in about 10minutes and hopefully be over in 20. Fingers crossed and hopefully you won't notice a thing

Thanks for letting us know what's going on, Liz. Like Doug, all I noticed was that I had to log in.

You will also notice that the attachments are currently not working, Liz is being a right angel and trying to fix this. :)

I think I got it sorted.. Now I just need to find out what else I've messed up... Feel free to hint :P.

Glad no one's found it painful so far at least!

Liz,

My "view posts since last visit" button returns very little. This could be coincidence, as I was not getting e-mail notification of watched topics so I deleted the LEC cookie this afternoon.

It's not a problem, but I thought you'd better know.

It may well have blanked out anything that was new before I did the upgrade, but if it continues, please do let me know.

The upgrade would have rendered existing cookies useless anyway, so it would have logged everyone out, and reset the list of un-read posts, unfortunatly a side effect we cannot do anything about when we upgrade the forum.

Um... just got this message when trying to refresh my "posts since last visit":

You cannot make another search so soon after your last; please try again in a short while.

Is this the forum police clamping down on abusive searches?

And also the read posts do not drop off the list, is this a feature? I found it quite handy that they disappeared once you'd read them.

ailwyn, this must be a new 'feature' of the security upgrade we just had to install. It takes about 20 seconds for this to time out, so if you're reading the posts and then going back to the list it should be ok, and the posts wont be marked as unread.

I always find it annoying when features get changed, but theres usually a good reason for this :)

Yes, there is a good reason.... the developer gets paid lots of money for it :D

Although I would know nothing about that

I have noticed one thing...

When I veiw posts since last visit.. they never get any less, even if i've read them, refreshed the page or even logged out and back in again..

Correction I wasn't logging out, just leaving the site and coming back in via my tool bar
