DXF format

Can anyone convert to DXF format or know of any decent (free) converters? I'd like a representation of the cat in dxf to go on my pcb's.

Sorry for slipping into acronyms so quickly! DXF is a format common in computer aided design (CAD) and I believe it is vector based so it is readily and accurately re-scaleable. I wanted to put the image on the elanscan interface printed circuit boards (pcb's) and the only format our pcb layout tools will accept is dxf. I didn't want to learn a new overly complicated tool for such a trivial task so thought I'd ask in case anyone was aware of any simple tools. Given Brian(F1Lotus)'s CAD/CAE expertise, I'm still hopeful that might be able to help.

Going back to my CAD days, I think DXF format was an Autocad format which became a defacto standard

am running auto cad 2007...standard software for me along with microstation......who wants what?????....and into what??...

It's me! I'm sat at home, bored out my box with shingles so please humour me!

I would like the cat on skates converted into a dxf file for cutting onto printed circuit boards; the image will end up about 1/4" square with 8 thou wide lines so it probably doesn't need to be too detailed! My pc is still bust so I haven't even had a chance to try converting the image to an outline with Paintshop - I don't know whether you can do that with Autocad. Don't waste too much effort on it, but if you can do something, that would be great.

PS just looked at your profile and realised why you've got Autocad - another ruddy engineer! There seems to be a few on this forum but very few hairdressers apparently.... . :gray: .

in order to get you line weights Id import it into cad and line it out...then delete the imported jpg and save it as a dxf (and a dwg whilst I'm at it)
dont know if brians method is easier......Ive not got an image modifier that I can link up so if brian got somethiong faster then I'll leave it in his capable hands....plus the fact I'll be away for a couple of weeks from monday so if I have a crack at it it'll be this weekend......but if I dont then it'll be when I get back

HELP!

Gareth's .dxf looks fine but when I import it into a 1" × ½" pcb, the board ends up twice as big as the Elan and I can't see a cat on the screen - if I'm lucky I get one pixel! I think the problem is that it is offset from the origin and with my limited tool/knowledge, I can't re-centre it. Is there any chance you could do a quick fix?
