I don't even do that Phil. As you would expect and as far as I can tell, there is no power on the MEMCAL with the ignition off, so I change mine in-situ with the ignition off.

I`ve removed mine several times and Dico`s whilst testing with no prob`s. Mind u a do remember JimP blowing a fuse in germany whilst fitting the latest chip :lol:

Surely pulling the fuse out cuts the power (and with ignition off) ensures there is no risk of a surge or short.

Why the hassle of disconnecting the battery and have to deal with the CD player and alarm when re connected?

Had ESM fit mine in Donny last year, IIRC he just pulled the ECU connectors, fitted the chip, re-fitted connectors - no battery disconnection.

If its an Elan (M100) so as long as its got a turbo its suitable.

Never mind Clemo. I hear that Alan is going to add to the famous Mountain range in the near future; in addition to the Kilimanjaro and Everest for the SE/S2, he's going to introduce the Bonneville for NA owners. :-D

That is the question, is there anything I should look for on the car? Exhaust type etc?
It's an H Reg SE Turbo, 32,000 miles with a ss exhaust, not sure what type or what else as I have only had it 1 year. I just kept everything running nicely as is without any upgrades.

If the boost is stock (0.65bar maximum) then it'll be ok. The only question is whether a 9929 or a 9930 is the right chip.

To know for sure you would have to get a garage to connect a diagnostic tool (a Tech-1) which would read-out the PROM id or find someone local to you with an ALDL interface and ElanScan which can do the same thing. If you ask on LEC there's a good chance someone close to you will help. Alternatively, if a 9930 has been fitted the mechanic should have written CO (or similar) on the ECU casing, the Lotus instructions said they should anyway, and I have seen it in the wild. You could have a look and if there's no marker go for a 9929 - its not foolproof like the other way though..

If you do get the wrong chip it won't do any harm to the engine but it might be tricky to pass the MOT emissions test (if you replace a 9930 with a 9929) or the idle might get a bit lumpy (if you replace a 9929 with a 9930). The latter can be fixed by adjusting the CO pot.

I think you got it wrong about the naming of the N/A chip. The Bonneville Salt Flats are home to some of the fastest cars ever seen on this planet.

The new N/A chip needs to be called "Death Valley".
