Hood/Window Adjustments

The swimming pool in the passenger footwell is all I need as a final push to try and get someone to sort my water ingress issues.

I realise this will probably end up coming down to how soon either can fit me in, but here goes:

Matty's vs SJs - anyone have any experience of either or both when it comes to A-post seal replacement, hood realignment or window adjustment?

Distance will be about the same to either, so no worries from me on that front, but I would rather get this all sorted in one go rather than a few attempts.

Also anyone have any idea on how long the above might take (assuming both hood and windows need adjusting)?

When Sinclaires did the a-post seals on my old Elan, they advised me to change the metal carriers they sit in as they were only £25 each and would save alot of time and money trying to clean the old ones up to get a good fitting.

Yeah, fit them yourself

When Dico had his windscreen replaced Chris Neils (Lotus dealer) didn`t do a perfect job on the A pillar seals

Could cost u a small fortune as i would imagine adjusting the windows etc would be time consuming and i bet they won`t garantee that it won`t leak. If it does leak are u going to drive all the way back?

We could bring some tools on Monday - sledgehammer, cold chisel and crowbar should fix it!

CN were not all that bad, just not perfect. Probably give them 8ish out of 10.
They managed to snap one of the seals at the top were it meets the top edge.If you look there are two plug holes and this is a weak point if your a bit heavy handed.
The sealant on the edges wasn't perfect but wasn't too bad I suppose. I could of got it better.
The other 'minor' fault was the black flexible strip which runs paralel with the A post seal, were it finishes on the bottom edge. On the passenger side it had been cut at an angle, which was correct, the drivers side had been cut slightly higher and straight across causing it to stick up a little.

In my opinion your always going to take more care if you do it yourself, and I wouldn't have expected anyone else to carry out a better job really.

I think the cost was somwhere in the region of £1200 - £1300

Ailwyn, don't know what the distance is to GST in Newmarket from you, but i can guarantee you a 1st class job. I agree with Monty & Dico, that if you are competent enough to do it yourself, then you can save a lot of money, but that option ain't open to all of us !, also do you really want to risk £300 worth of seals ?

I have been fiddling with my roof seals today and discovered (unless people already knew this) that you can get a good seal between side window glass and seal by fitting extra foam (or in my case aerial coax ) behind the seal, between it and the carrier. I found some foam already tucked in there, so it was either done at the factory or by previous owner.
